Lung biopsy in scleroderma-associated interstitial lung disease

Lung biopsy from a patient with scleroderma and a reticular pattern on high resolution CT scan that shows thickening of the alveolar septa with collagen (stained pink), a mild lymphocytic infiltrate, and tissue destruction. The arrow points to an example of an alveolar septum thickened by collagen deposition. These findings are consistent with fibrotic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP).
