Construction of a loop colostomy- defunctionalized distal limb

This figure depicts the matured loop colostomy with an everted proximal limb and defunctionalized distal limb. Full-thickness distal bowel is sutured to the dermis of the skin. The proximal functioning limb is constructed by suturing the end of the full-thickness bowel wall to the seromuscular layer 3 cm proximal to the colotomy, then suturing to the dermis of the skin.
