Stages of circumscribed morphea

The lesions of morphea begin with small violaceous or erythematous skin changes (inflammatory phase, left panel) that enlarge and progress to firm, "hide-bound" skin, with variable degrees of hypo- and hyperpigmentation (atrophic phase, right panel).
