Pseudoclawing stems from an imbalance of metacarpophalangeal joint hyperextension and proximal interphalangeal joint flexion that occurs when the patient attempts finger extension. It occurs in proportion to the degree of apex dorsal angulation at the metacarpal fracture site. This condition represents one indication for surgery.
