Ileostomy

This drawing shows an ileostomy. To make an ileostomy, a doctor makes a small opening in the belly. This opening is called a "stoma." Then, they connect the small intestine to the stoma. Bowel movements exit the body through the stoma. They go into a bag that is attached to the skin.
