The sterile foil from a suture packet is cut to fit in the proximal fold and secured in place through the lateral skin folds using skin glue (eg, cyanoacrylate glue) or absorbable 4-0 suture. If there is also an injury to the proximal nail fold or a comminuted, displaced tuft fracture, this approach helps preserve the proximal fold as the new nail grows in.
