Symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysm with rapid expansion

Symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysm with rapid expansion
An infrarenal AAA is shown over a 17-month period. The earliest axial CT (A) shows  the AAA measuring 5 cm. Ten months later, the AAA is marginally larger and measures 5.2 cm in diameter. Seven months later, the patient presented with left lower quadrant pain and a tender aneurysm now measuring 6 cm on CT scan (C). A new deformity in the anterior abdominal wall is identified anterior to the aorta (arrow) caused by the rapidly expanding aneurysm, which has an increased risk for rupture.
AAA: abdominal aortic aneurysm; CT: computed tomography.
