Endoscopic appearance of Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) colitis (panels A and B) with diffuse pseudomembranes through the examined colon with scant areas of visible colonic mucosa. While pseudomembranes are not diagnostic of C. difficile colitis, in the appropriate clinical setting, visualization of pseudomembranes nearly always reflects a C. difficile infection.
