Cyst of Acanthamoeba in brain tissue

This photomicrograph depicted a magnified view of brain tissue within which was a centrally located Acanthamoeba spp cyst. Acanthamoeba spp are opportunistic free-living amebae, capable of causing granulomatous amebic encephalitis in individuals with compromised immune systems.
