Dermoscopic features of regular and irregular fibrillar pattern

In the regular fibrillar pattern of benign nevi (A), the overall arrangement of the fibrils is mostly symmetric, and the endpoints of the fibrils align on straight lines corresponding to the surface furrows. In contrast, in the irregular fibrillar pattern seen in melanoma (B), the fibrils are variable in color and thickness and are arranged in a disorderly, haphazard fashion. Their endpoints do not align on a straight line.
