Acoustic shadowing on musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging

Above is an anterior transverse ultrasound scan of the shoulder. Adjacent to the long head of the biceps tendon (BT), linear calcification (arrow) shows acoustic shadowing deep to the calcification (asterisk). The cortical lining of bone and calcifications are typically hyperechoic (ie, appear white).
