Hook of hamate pull test

Hook of hamate pull test
Hook of hamate pull test. The patient's hand is placed palm up on an examination table with the wrist in full active ulnar deviation, and the ring and little fingers flexed. The examiner then resists the patient's active flexion (of the digitorum profundus) in these two fingers. During the maneuver, pain focused at the hook of the hamate region (and sometimes radiating into the palm or wrist) suggests fracture of the hamulus.
(A) Anatomical drawing showing position of tendons and hook of hamate during test. Inset shows direction of displacement of force.
(B) Photograph of a hand in same position. The tendons and hook of hamate are drawn on the fingers, palm, and wrist. The hook of hamate is indicated by the red spot and the direction of force displacement is indicated by the arrow.
