Cerebral cryptococcomas caused by Cryptococcus gattii
A magnetic resonance imaging scan showing a large, enhancing mass in the left parietal lobe and a similar mass in the right cerebellar hemisphere (panels A and B). A biopsy of the parietal mass showed numerous yeast cells, and cultures grew Cryptococcus gattii. Repeat imaging 16 months later, while the patient was still receiving fluconazole, showed a significant reduction in the size of the cerebral cryptococcomas (panels C and D).
