Ultrasound appearance of hamstring avulsion injury

An ultrasound image of a hamstring avulsion injury is shown above. The "X" indicates the ischial tuberosity; the downward arrow points to a bony fragment avulsed from the tuberosity; and the "+" indicates the proximal tendon. Note the "hypoechoic" area between the tendon and the tuberosity consistent with acute swelling.
