Patella: Anterior and posterior surfaces

These diagrams show the patella free of all soft tissue attachments. The apex represents the most inferior aspect of this sesamoid bone. The image on the left with the rougher surface depicts the anterior side of the patella; the image on the right with the smoother surface shows the inferior, or articular, side.
