Myofascial pain (Gebauer's Spray and Stretch, Gebauer's Pain Ease only), restricted motion, muscle tension: Topical: Spray skin over affected muscle (include muscle attachment over trigger point, through and over the reference zone) at a rate of ~4 inches/second (10 centimeter/second); passively stretch muscle during spray application; may repeat if necessary.
Temporary relief of minor sports injury, preinjection anesthesia, anesthetic in minor surgery and muscle spasms: Topical: Dosage varies with duration of application; use smallest dose necessary. When using for muscle spasm, gently stretch muscle immediately after application.
Cotton method (Cryodose TA only): Apply saturated cotton to site for 5 to 15 seconds. Reapply as needed.
Spray method: Spray over affected area for 4 to 10 seconds; spray until skin begins to turn white; do not frost the skin. Reapply as needed.

Refer to adult dosing.
The following adverse drug reactions and incidences are derived from product labeling unless otherwise specified.
Frequency not defined.
Dermatologic: Disorder of skin pigmentation, skin irritation
Hypersensitivity to pentafluoropropane, tetrafluoroethane, or any other component of the formulation
Concerns related to adverse effects:
• Frostbite: Overuse may cause frostbite.
• Infection: Freezing may lower resistance to infection and healing.
• Skin irritation: Discontinue use if skin becomes irritated.
• Skin pigmentation: Overuse may alter skin pigmentation.
Disease-related concerns:
• Diabetes: Do not use in patients with diabetes mellitus.
• Poor circulation: Use with caution in patients with poor circulation.
Other warnings/precautions:
• Appropriate use: For external use only; avoid use in eyes; do not use on large areas of damaged skin, puncture wounds, animal bites, serious wounds, or genital mucous membranes. Use on intact mucous membranes only. Use with caution in patients with insensitive skin. Provides temporary relief (<1 minute) in sports injuries; initiate other therapy as soon as possible. If used to produce local freezing, protect adjacent skin areas with petroleum.
• Self-medication (OTC use): When used for self-medication, do not spray near face, on open wounds, or abraded skin.
Excipient information presented when available (limited, particularly for generics); consult specific product labeling.

Topical: For external use only. Discontinue if skin becomes irritated. Avoid use in eyes. Do not use near face, open wounds, abraded skin, puncture wounds, animal bites, or genital mucous membranes. When used for local tissue freezing, adjacent skin areas should be protected with petroleum. Avoid use on unaffected areas. If the aerosol quits spraying, turn actuator button ~1/2 turn and spray again.
Myofascial pain: Gebauer's Spray and Stretch, Gebauer's Pain Ease: Hold can upright 12 to 18 inches (30 to 46 centimeters) away from treatment area. Aim the spray so it meets the skin at an acute angle. Direct in parallel sweeps 0.5 to 1 inch (1.5 to 2 centimeters) apart at the rate of 4 inches/second (10 centimeters/second). Passively stretch the muscle during application; increase the force of the stretch with successive sweeps. As the muscle relaxes, establish a new stretch length. For complete pain relief, the full, normal length of the muscle must be reached. Apply moist heat for 10 to 15 minutes after treatment.
Sports injuries (minor), preinjection anesthesia, topical anesthesia in minor surgery:
Cotton method (Cryodose TA): Spray a small amount into a cup for ~10 seconds or until reach 5 mL; place cotton (ball, gauze, or swab) into cup until well saturated and no visible product left in the cup. May also directly spray cotton for 10 seconds to achieve saturation. Immediately apply to affected site after cotton is saturated. Use only sterile cotton if skin is breached.
Spray method: Hold can upright 3 to 7 inches (8 to 18 centimeters) away from treatment area. Spray steadily for 4 to 10 seconds; perform procedure immediately. Anesthetic action lasts a few seconds to 1 minute.
Pain relief: Management of myofascial pain, restricted motion, and muscle tension; temporary relief of muscle spasm and minor sports injuries (eg, bruises, contusions, cuts/abrasions, swelling, minor sprains, strains); control of pain associated with injections (eg, venipuncture, IV starts, cosmetic procedures) or minor surgical procedures (lancing boils, incisions, drainage of small abscesses, sutures).
Refer to individual components.
There are no known significant interactions.
Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted.
Vapocoolant (skin refrigerant) and counterirritant
Duration of action: Anesthetic effect: Seconds to 1 minute
