The three palmar interosseous muscles

The palmar interosseous muscles adduct the fingers; the middle finger has no palmar interosseous muscle attaching to it. The palmar interosseous muscles also flex the metacarpophalangeal joint and extend the interphalangeal joints. Observe that the line of reference for adduction is midway down the middle finger.
