The symptoms of mast cell activation result from the physiologic actions of the chemical mediators released by mast cells. In patients with mast cell activation syndromes, combinations of these symptoms affecting two or more organ systems occur episodically.

* Subjective complaints that should be accompanied by symptoms or signs affecting at least two other organ systems to prompt an evaluation for a mast cell disorder.
