Glucocorticoid injection in greater trochanteric pain syndrome

Glucocorticoid injection in greater trochanteric pain syndrome
Glucocorticoid injection for greater trochanteric pain syndrome.
(A) The shaded area indicates the superoposterior facet (posterior corner) of the greater trochanter.
(B) After preparation of the injection site with iodine or chlorhexidine, the needle is directed towards the superoposterior facet of the greater trochanter. From there, the needle is moved back and forth while small volumes are injected in a radial manner around the base of a cone approximately 2.5 cm in diameter. We use a glucocorticoid dose of 40 mg of methylprednisolone or equivalent mixed with 5 mL of 1% lidocaine. We prefer using a 22-gauge, 1.5-inch needle.
