14- and 6-Hertz positive bursts (arrows). This is a normal variant, generally seen during drowsiness or light sleep, maximal in the posterior temporal region. The bursts are usually 14 Hz, although can occur at a rate of 6 to 7 Hz, and have a positive spiky component with a smooth negative phase.
