Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory follicular disorder that involves painful nodules, abscesses, and tunnels of intertriginous sites. Although the etiology has not been fully elucidated, recent studies have highlighted its association with chromosomal abnormalities. We present a rare case of HS in a patient with Trisomy 1q;13 and systematically summarize the association between HS and chromosomal abnormalities.

Gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley, is known to cause an immune reaction in patients with celiac disease (CD) resulting in small bowel villous atrophy and impaired nutrient absorption and cutaneous manifestations in patients with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH). It is common that patients associate skin conditions with their diet, and the advantages of a gluten?free diet (GFD) are brought up frequently. Indeed, there is evidence that certain dermatologic conditions can respond to a GFD, especially for those with concomitant CD and DH. In the last decade, new data have become available on the significance of gluten in skin disease. Herein, we review the role of gluten and a GFD on various cutaneous diseases beyond DH.

Smartphone applications (apps) are available to consumers for skin cancer prevention and early detection. This study aims to review changes over time in the skin cancer apps available to consumers as well as their functionality and costs. Apps for the prevention of skin cancer were searched on two major smartphone app stores (Android and iOS) in June 2019. The number, functionality, ratings, and price of the apps were described and compared to similar reviews of the skin cancer app market from 2014 to 2017. Overall, the June 2019 search identified 66 apps.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease involving the skin bearing apocrine glands. There are numerous comorbidities and associated diseases among patients with HS. The association of HS and thyroid abnormalities is equivocal. We aimed to explore whether HS is associated with thyroid disorders.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID?19) is a viral illness caused by the novel coronavirus SARS?CoV?2 which spreads via droplets from an infected person. There has been an unprecedented rise in the use of personal protective equipment and practice of personal hygiene measures against COVID?19. The extended use of protective measures (PM) can lead to ill effects on the skin. Our aim was to investigate PM?induced dermatoses amongst healthcare workers and the general population during the COVID?19 pandemic.

Scalp melanomas are usually thicker and show worse prognosis than other sites and other head and neck melanomas. One hypothesis to explain this aggressive behavior could be diagnosis delay attributed to hair concealment of lesions.

Ichthyosis prematurity syndrome (IPS) is a rare type of syndromic autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) caused by a mutation in the SLC27A4 gene that encodes the fatty acid transport protein 4 (FATP4), which is responsible for keratinocyte differentiation and skin barrier function. IPS is characterized by a triad of prematurity, perinatal respiratory asphyxia, and thick vernix caseosa?like scales. In this report, we present the clinical and molecular characterization of IPS in two Omani siblings.

Skin fibrosis caused by excessive collagen synthesis and deposition in the dermis affects the quality of daily life of hundreds of thousands of people around the world. The skin quality, including its smoothness in young age and wrinkly during the aging process, depends largely on the levels of extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen in skin. As physiological levels of collagen are desirable for skin homeostasis, beauty, and its flexibility, too much collagen deposition in the skin is associated with tight hard skin, loss of adipose layer, and flexibility, the pathological manifestations of skin fibrosis in fibrotic diseases such as scleroderma.
