As the histology, physiology, and pathophysiology of eyes and kidneys show substantial overlap, it has been suggested that eye and kidney diseases, such as glaucoma and chronic kidney disease (CKD), may be closely interlinked. We review the relationship between CKD and various subtypes of glaucoma, including primary open-angle glaucoma, primary angle- closure glaucoma, normal tension glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation syndrome, and several glaucoma endophenotypes.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible vision impairment globally, and cases are continuously rising worldwide. Early detection is crucial, allowing timely intervention that can prevent further visual field loss. To detect glaucoma an examination of the optic nerve head via fundus imaging can be performed, at the center of which is the assessment of the optic cup and disc boundaries.

We review the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in the screening, diagnosis, and classification of diabetic macular edema (DME) by searching six databases– PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, IEEE, and ACM– from January 1, 2005 to July 4, 2021. A total of 879 articles were extracted, and by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 38 articles were selected for more evaluation.

Optical coherence tomography is a noninvasive imaging technology using the optical reflectivity of tissues that is capable of detecting quantitative and qualitative biomarkers of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that cannot be similarly recognized in conventional imaging. We systematically searched PubMed and Embase databases to identify relevant articles to this subject. A fixed-effect or random-effect model was applied for the meta-analysis based on the heterogeneity level.

We estimated the proportion of children with stereopsis following surgery in congenital and developmental cataracts by systematic review and meta-analysis and also considered the factors influencing stereopsis, such as intervention age and presence of strabismus. Stereopsis is directly related to quality of life, and investigating its levels following cataract surgery in children may help decide the right time to intervene, particularly in the context of brain plasticity.

A 75-year-old Caucasian woman presented with sudden-onset multifocal scotomas in her right eye's central vision for 1 day. There were subtle white intraretinal foveal lesions that correlated with patchy inner retinal hyperreflectivity on optical coherence tomography, suggestive of paracentral acute middle maculopathy. Initial cerebrovascular work-up was negative.
