Volatile anesthetics have been historically preferred for cardiac anesthesia, but the evidence for their superiority to intravenous agents is mixed. We conducted a survey to better understand the current state of practice and the rationale behind provider preferences for anesthesia for cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

The effect of anesthesia regimens on postoperative delirium after on-pump cardiac valve surgery is yet undetermined. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of volatile anesthesia compared with propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) on the occurrence of delirium after on-pump cardiac valve surgery.

We hypothesized that laboratory distributions differ based on self-reported sex and ethnicity and that ranges stratified by these factors better correlate with postoperative mortality and acute kidney injury (AKI).
