Combined phacoemulsification-goniosynechialysis (phaco-GSL) and unaugmented phacotrabeculectomy were both found to be effective in treating eyes with significant cataract and medically unresponsive acute primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG). Phaco-GSL seemed to be safer, with fewer surgical complications, and achieved better visual acuity than phacotrabeculectomy.

XEN implant was associated with low endothelial cell density (ECD) reduction. In fact, when combined with phacoemulsification, the reduction in ECD was similar to that expected after phacoemulsification alone.

Chronic hypotony is not uncommon following deep sclerectomy (DS), but only a minor proportion of patients develop hypotony-associated complications. Numerical hypotony does not affect the visual outcomes. This study identifies factors associated with hypotony.

Mitomycin was used with Ahmed valve implantation in 81 eyes of 63 children. After 5 years, probability of intraocular pressure (IOP) control without glaucoma medication was 35±6%; 57% achieved IOP control with topical medications after 10 years.

Our laboratory study determined the approximate suture diameter for use in intraluminal stenting of the Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) to prevent postoperative hypotony. Commercial 3-0 monofilament nylon sutures which are commonly used may vary significantly outside of this diameter.

A 57-year-old woman presented with photophobia and complaint of a persistent white light in the inferior field of her left eye for 18 months following laser peripheral iridotomy both eyes. In primary gaze, the upper lid margin was noted to bisect the iridotomy at 2 o’clock left eye (OS). She relates that the light moves with her eyelid OS only and resolves by lifting the lid. A 54-year-old male presented with complaint of seeing 2 horizontal lines in his field of vision immediately following laser iridotomy OS that have persisted for a duration of 7 years. He notes they are constant and resolve by lifting up the eyelid. In primary position, the left upper lid margin was noted to bisect the iridotomy at 12 o’clock OS.

We report a case of migration of the XEN45 gel stent into the anterior chamber successfully treated with trimming of the implant. To the best of our knowledge, this management strategy for migration of the implant has not previously been reported.

This article describes the first reported case of trans-conjunctival Preserflo microshunt erosion after revision surgery augmented with mitomycin C. Recommendations to avoid this complication include removal of original microshunt and limiting secondary application of mitomycin C.
