The 2020 recommendations from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation are an improved version of the 2015 version. The algorithm and 15 procedures are unchanged from 2015, but there are six procedures with new or changed recommendations. One new recommendation is briefing/debriefing following neonatal resuscitation. Procedures with changed suggestions/recommendations are as follows: suctioning of non?vigorous infants delivered through meconium?stained amniotic fluid, sustained inflation of preterm infants, optimising epinephrine (adrenaline), vascular access and discontinuing resuscitative efforts.

Infants are at risk of vitamin K deficiency that may lead to vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB). Although many vitamin K prophylactic regimens have been developed throughout the years, still cases of late form VKBD may occur. The introduction of combined prophylactic strategy with prolonged oral prophylaxes after the intramuscular dose at birth has showed a decrease of the late severe VKDB incidence. Nevertheless, there is still lack of consensus about the administration scheme after the first dose at birth.

A review published in 2015 showed that 331 Bacillus Calmette?Guérin (BCG) osteitis cases were globally reported in 1976?2012. The 222 Finnish cases from 1960 to 1988 formed two?thirds of all cases. The present narrative review summarises epidemiological, clinical and immunological findings obtained from this Finnish cohort in relation to data from other countries.

Children suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) have the apparent highest risk for the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) at a young age. While symptoms of CVD are characteristically absent in childhood and adolescence, remodelling of the myocardium, medium and large?sized arteries and of the microcirculation is clinically significant and can be assessed with non?invasive technology.

The effect of ventilator modes on regional tissue oxygenation in premature neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) has yet to be delineated. Previous studies have looked at global oxygen delivery and have not assessed the effects on regional tissue oxygenation. Our aim in this study was to assess such tissue oxygenation in premature babies with RDS in relation to differing modes of ventilation using near?infrared spectroscopy (NIRS).

Postoperative recovery of children with heart disease is encumbered by pulmonary complications like pneumothorax (PNX), pleural effusion (PLE), interstitial oedema and pulmonary consolidation (PC). Recently, lung ultrasound (LUS) has become an important diagnostic tool for evaluation of pulmonary diseases in the paediatric context. LUS is accurate in diagnosing pleural and parenchymal diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of LUS in the identification of PNX, PLE and PC in a paediatric population of patients with congenital heart disease after heart surgery.
