US biceps femoris tendon division transverse view

This transverse ultrasound image shows the fibular collateral ligament (short-axis) and deep and superficial layers of the biceps femoris tendon (short-axis). The distal portion of the tendon divides into these deep and superficial portions, which travel around the fibular collateral ligament.

Open ellipse: superficial layer of biceps femoris tendon; dotted ellipse: deep layer of biceps femoris tendon; open rectangle: fibular collateral ligament; arrow: direction superficial layer (superficial to fibular collateral ligament) courses caudally; dashed arrow: direction deep layer (deep to fibular collateral ligament) courses distally.
