Algorithm for management of spontaneous nipple discharge (nonlactating)
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
* Women who have had a mammogram within 6 months or are pregnant may undergo ultrasound only.
¶ Galactography or ductoscopy may also be performed if available, but any lesion identified has to be excised with the duct.
Δ Some UpToDate authors do not excise benign and concordant lesions without high-risk features if nipple discharge ceases after core biopsy. ◊ Some UpToDate authors excise all discharging ducts in patients with bloody nipple discharge.
