Getting in and out of bed after back surgery

• Sit on the edge of the bed.
• Bring both legs up to the bed as your shoulder and head move toward the bed, so you are lying on your side.
• Turn to your back, keeping your back straight with your shoulders and hips in a straight line.

To get out of bed:

• Turn onto your side, keeping your back straight and shoulders and hips in a straight line.
• Bend your knees.
• Slowly drop your knees over the side of the bed as you sit up, using your hands to push you to a sitting position.
