Flexible bronchoscopy to confirm correct placement of an endotracheal tube

For confirmation of correct ETT placement a flexible intubating scope or bronchoscope is passed through the ETT and beyond the tip of the tube. Visualization of the tracheal rings, the trachealis smooth muscle posteriorly, and the carina, confirms tracheal tube placement.
