Symptomatic treatment for mild to moderate blepharitis

Treatment	Purpose	Description	Frequency
Warm compress	Liquefy solidified secretions in the meibomian glands	Soak a washcloth in warm (not hot) water and place it over eyes. Rewarm as wash cloth cools and replace for a total of 5 to 10 minutes soaking time.	2 to 4 times per day
Lid massage	Improve secretion from meibomian glands	Use a washcloth or clean fingertip to gently massage the eyelid toward its edge in a circular motion. Perform after warm compress application.	2 to 4 times per day
Lid washing	Remove eyelid debris	Use warm water or lid hygiene solution on washcloth, gauze pad, or cotton swab to gently clean along the lashes and lid margins. Do not touch the eye surface. Perform after warm compress application.	1 to 2 times per day
Artificial tears	Improve eye dryness	Place one drop in each eye.	4 times per day
