The respiratory system lets you breathe in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide. The nose, mouth, windpipe, and lungs are all parts of the respiratory system.
- When you breathe in, air flows through your nose or mouth and into your windpipe or "trachea" (arrows).
- The trachea branches into 2 smaller airways called the left and right "bronchi." These carry air in and out of the lungs.
- The bronchi branch off into even smaller airways called "bronchioles." At the end of the bronchioles are air sacs, which help get oxygen from your lungs into your blood.
