Degree of overweight (BMI)
High maximum BMI
Lifetime exposure to a high BMI, including a history of childhood obesity
Weight gain ≥5 kg after age 18 years
Presence of abdominal obesity (eg, elevated waist circumference)
Additional cardiovascular risk factors (eg, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea)
Risk factors for obesity-related morbidity and mortality. Although this list is not comprehensive, these are some of the factors we consider when deciding on need for pharmacotherapy.
