Immunoglobulin (IgG, IgM, IgA) levels in the fetus and infant in the first year of life

Immunoglobulin (IgG, IgM, IgA) levels in the fetus and infant in the first year of life
The IgG of the fetus and newborn infant is solely of maternal origin. Maternal IgG disappears by 9 months of age, by which time endogenous synthesis of IgG is well established. IgM and IgA in the neonate are entirely endogenously synthesized because maternal IgM and IgA do not cross the placenta.
IgG: immunoglobulin G; IgM: immunoglobulin M; IgA: immunoglobulin A.
